May 2008 Goldstar

May 2008

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are in our last few weeks of school and there are a lot of fun and educational activities still yet to come. Teachers are still continuing to stress reading, writing and math skills, in addition to the successes your child has shown throughout the year. As a reminder, your child is still responsible for his/her assignment completion and is expected to maintain good effort and behavior.

We will continue our focus on the main idea and summarizing the story. When your child reads this summer, ask them to write a short, concise summary telling you what the story is mostly about (fiction) or three interesting facts that they learned (non fiction). Being able to talk about it and then write it on paper will help them internalize the information. We will continue to work on our summaries next year from Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Reminder to all students and families: Our library is missing around 150 books that have been checked out. Replacement costs for these books would be about $3,000!!! Please look for any books that may be hidden in bedrooms or under things in your homes and return them to the library ASAP! That $3,000 could be better spent on instructional materials for our Goldrick classrooms. Report cards will be held until books are returned or payment is received.
