Hit the Screen

by Andrew B.

One hot blazing summer day I went outside from the kitchen with my mom but she told me to get something from her room. So I went back inside to go get it. I didn't know she went downstairs. When she called my name, I looked over my shoulder. BAM! I ran into the screen. The weird thing was the screen door didn't break off. The screen was ripped at the bottom but not the top and the bottom. Since I was outside I had to go back inside and tell her, "Ummmmm--I accidentally ran into the screen."

She shouted, "Did you break it"? For a second I thought I saw fire come out of her eyes.

I would have shouted back at her, but she really scared me so I softly said, "Not exactly. The screen door didn't break off or anything, but there's a big hole in it."

She said softly, "Show me." I was glad she didn't yell again.

We went upstairs to see. She took one look and said, "You're pathetic." She rolled her eyes at me and said, "I don't get how you managed not to see that." By then I was a little calm but a little shaky too.

I was embarrassed when she went in her room to tell my dad. He just shook his head. Then my nosey sister came in my mom's room and said, "What happened?" My mom told her. My sister made faces that looked like someone running into a screen.

Later that day my grandma came over, and my mom told her what happened, too. My mom and dad made fun of me for the rest of the day, too.

I hated that she told people, but I got over it, and they got over my breaking the screen door.
