"Home of the Prairie Dogs"

Balarat

by Andrew, 5th grade

My class went on a nature walk because we were getting ready to go to Balarat. We went to Balarat on December 10 and came home on December 13.

We were one of the first groups of people to go where the Hayman fire was. We had to climb up a mountain. A kid in my class almost fell off.

Then we went and learned about the trappers and traders. We learned how they caught beaver. Another thing we learned about was how the pioneers made biscuits. We were going to learn about Indians but we went boot skating on the pond instead.

The next day was the last day. We went on a little hike in the morning. When we got back, we ate lunch. We listened to Mr. Jhon about what we were going to do next. We played team games. The games were called the Amazon River, Titanic, and the Six Foot Wall. In the Amazon River you were supposed to try to get across the dirt by using a certain number of tree stumps. The rules were you can't touch the ground. If one of the tree stumps is not being used, it gets taken away. The other game we played was the Titanic. You are supposed to get your whole class on a little box long enough to sing a song. We didn't get to do the other team game because we were out of time.

On the way home on the bus we listened to old songs. I fell asleep on the bus. When we got back to school, we watched Finding Nemo for the last few minutes. That's what we did and what we learned going to Balarat.
