Getting Ready for Balarat

Getting Ready for Balarat

by José

My class went on several nature walks to get ready for Balarat. We saw a lot of deciduous trees and evergreen trees. Deciduous trees lose all their leaves in the fall. Evergreen trees lose some of their needles in the winter. Then they are called litter.

We also learned how to use a compass. The first thing you need to do is line up the bearing with the Direction of Travel Arrow. Then you park the red needle in the garage and walk the way the Direction of Travel Arrow is pointing. We did a lot of projects with the compasses to get ready for Balarat.

After learning how to use a compass we went over the supplies we needed for Balarat. We also watched a movie to teach us about safety during winter. One of the things we learned was that if you don't have gloves or mittens on and you grab snow you could get major frostbite and lose a finger.

That was the day before Balarat. Now we were ready to go. I did all of the things to get ready for Balarat, but my mom was worried I would get hurt so I wasn't able to go.
