"Home of the Prairie Dogs"

The Greatest Day of My Six-Year-Old Life
by Hailey

I was six years old, sitting at home, doing my homework, when I heard voices outside. I stood up on my chair and looked into the foggy park. Girls my age were playing soccer. I went over to my dad, who was watching TV, and said, “I wanna play soccer!”

“Go get your sweat pants on.”

“Really? Ya mean it? Really?”

“Yeah.”

I was so excited; I hopped up the stairs and ran into my room. “Shhhh!!!!” whispered my sister. “Dolly is sleeping!”

“Fine,” I said. Then I started to make as much noise as possible; slamming doors and drawers. I did this because I liked to annoy my little sister. It was fun! I went down the stairs and yelled, “Ready!” I was so happy I couldn’t keep still. “Let’s go!”

We reached the park and saw my friends, Taylor and Courtney. “Hi, Hailey!” said Taylor.

“Are you going to play soccer?” asked Courtney.

“Yeah!” I yelled.

“Cool!” said Taylor and Courtney at the same time.

“Bye, Hailey,” said my dad.

“Bye, Daddy,” I replied. We hugged and he headed for the house. “All right girls,” said the coach, Ms. Jodie, “let’s get warmed up.”

After we got warmed up with sit-ups, cherry pickers and touching our toes, every way you could think of, we started to pass the soccer ball.

A half an hour later, Dad showed up.

“Great work girls!” Ms. Jodie shouted out.

“Bye, Hailey,” said Taylor and Courtney.

“See you later Hailey,” said Ms. Jodie. We were home when Shea came downstairs. Dad asked me, “How was it?”

I couldn’t answer him. I was so excited, I couldn’t talk.

“Dolly woke up because you were so loud. Now she is crying so loud, it breaks the drums in your ears!” whined my sister. Finally, I caught my breath and said, “I bet Dolly didn’t have as much fun as me! I bet Dolly didn’t have fun at all! I had so much fun; your eardrums would start laughing! There was a soccer ball with a happy face on it. And guess what color it was! Pink! My favorite color!”

By the time I was finished with my, “Rub-it-in-Shea’s-Face" speech,I was ready for the screaming and crying.

I kept on thinking about how much fun I had. I couldn’t wait for the next soccer practice! Then I went downstairs to finish my homework.
