The Terrifying Day
by N.T.
I saw my mom dressed up in black, or so it seemed. I was thinking about, “Why is she not telling me the place she is going?” I knew I was too little to go. "Mom where are you going?"
“I’m going to the funeral,” she said. Not knowing what a funeral was, I thought it was a place where you get dressed up in black. "You will be all by yourself with your brother. Don’t let your brother pick up the phone.”
“Ok,” I said, not knowing why. “Bye, Mom,” I said.
“Bye,” my mom said back.
A few minutes later, after my mom left, the lights went off. It was as dark as dark can be. I stood frozen. “What can I do?” I asked in my head. Just then, I remembered that I had a flashlight in the kitchen. I slowly went to the kitchen. Just then BONG! I fell.
“Tlmy,” I asked, “is that you?”
“Yes it’s me.” I felt small things on the floor. It was the kitchen floor. I went to the counter. I got it. I got the flashlight.
My brother and I were racing to my room where it was safe. Just then the phone rang. My brother was going to pick it up. What was I going to do? “STOP!” I screamed as loud as I could. “When Mom left she said, 'No one pick up the phone.'” Ding Dong! went the doorbell. My brother zoomed to the window so he could see the people who were coming. “It’s Mom,” he said. Just then the lights went on. We both ran to give mom a huge hug.
